The greatest treasure hunt for a runner is the sidewalk sale at your local running shop. The ultimate prize: last year’s model of your favorite shoe, in your size, at a steep discount. Lucky for you, Hoka’s bringing the sidewalk sale to your keyboard. It’s offering some outstanding markdowns on classic models including its carbon fiber-plated racer, the Carbon X, and the ultra-plush Bondi 6.

With it’s highly cushioned foam and soft-lugged outsole, the Challenger has become my favorite winter running shoe—it handles snow and slush like a champ. It also tames just about any trail you’ll find, any time of the year, and proves comfortable if you have to log a couple pavement miles to get to and from the trailhead. This is a steal for Hoka’s most versatile shoe.
Hoka’s top-of-the-line racer with a carbon-fiber plate is designed for going long distances at top speed. It’s the shoe Jim Walmsley wore to smash the 50-mile world record in 2019. We can’t guarantee you similar speed, but you’ll have loads of fun in this fast ride.

The Bondi is the shoe that started the thick-soled craze. Back when barefoot-like shoes ruled, Hoka built the thickest trail shoe you ever saw for crushing Alpine descents. The Bondi was its road-running follow-up, and was a massive hit. It’s still the softest shoe you’re going to slip your feet into—and that lightweight cushioning feels oh so good on easy days.
“That’s one fine-looking shoe” isn’t something you used to hear about a Hoka. But the Cavu 3 changed all that. It delivers just as much comfort and speed underfoot as it does style when paired with jeans. If there’s one shoe I’m packing for a long vacation (whenever that happens again), it’s this do-it-all shoe.
Long runs on singletrack? Extra gnarly terrain? The Mafate is the horse you want under your saddle. It has a beefy midsole that absorbs a pounding but is super lightweight so it won’t slow you down. And the Vibram Megagrip rubber sticks to anything you plant your foot onto.
Hoka’s first carbon-plated shoe is also perhaps the most un-Hoka–like shoe you’ll find. There’s no rocker, the sole is relatively thin, and it isn’t overly cushioned. But it’s itching to be your partner in short road races or track workouts.
For the 23 hours of the day when you’re not running, why not slide into a well-padded slipper? This laceless version of the Cavu 3 delivers everything you need for walking around town or even just doing yard work, to be honest.
Winter is over, but go ahead and stock up for next year’s mud and slush seasons with this Gore-Tex version of the versatile Challenger. The waterproof bootie keeps the muck outside where it belongs.
