You Can Ice-skate Along a Fire-lit Trail in Canada This Winter

If you’re looking to be basic this winter then it’s OK to head to a regular skating rink. But, if you’re looking to seriously up your winter activity game then you need to head to the Muskoka forest.

Situated inside Arrowhead Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, is one of the coolest ice skating paths on Earth. As part of its annual Fire & Ice nights, Arrowhead Provincial Park opens up its famed ice skating trail both during the day from 11-3pm and again at night, from 6-9pm so visitors can skate under the stars and among its “fire.”

During the night skate, the 1.3-kilometer trail is illuminated with hundreds of tiki torches lighting the way and adding even more romance to the air.

Of course, the park’s attraction becomes extremely packed during the weekends as hoards of people descend to take part in the magical event. That’s why the park itself recommends visitors try to experience it during the week, on Thursday nights, when it’s a bit more manageable.

Skates will be available for rent at the head of the trail and admission to the park will run between $17 to $20. Dogs are not permitted, however, parents can bring strollers along so long as they feel confident and the stroller comes with rubber wheels.

To make the event even more special guests can stay overnight at one of Arrowhead’s 10 onsite cabins. The rustic camping cabins are one large room but can sleep up to five people for the ultimate sleepover in the wilderness. Just make sure to bring along a few warm blankets and plenty of cocoa to sip with your loved ones after your ice-cold skate.
