IL State Fair offers discounted food options for fairgoers
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Nothing says “summer” like fair food — but we can’t always afford it. The Illinois State Fair is changing that with a couple fun events.
With “Small Plates, Big Tastes,” samples from any Village of Cultures vendor will be sold for just $3.

The “Feeding Frenzy” will also return in 2024. This fun schtick happens every weekday of the fair from 2-5 p.m., and is marked by the “Jaws” theme song playing over loudspeakers. 15 minutes after it sounds, participating vendors will begin selling items at discounted prices.
“We wanted to give fairgoers a way to ‘travel’ around the world in the Village of Cultures without breaking the bank,” said Illinois State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark. “The sample-size portions allow fairgoers to try foods from many different parts of the world, and if they enjoy what they try, they can go back for the full-size portion.”
The Illinois State Fair runs Aug. 8-18 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (801 Sangamon Avenue, Springfield). For a full list of participating food vendors, see the Illinois State Fair website.
