Influencer Nara Smith Shares Advice for Traveling With Kids & We Have So Many Questions
Although famous for her “tradwife” content — where 9.8 million TikTok followers watch her make elaborate meals from scratch for her husband and kids — in real life, Nara Smith is actually a fashion model who travels the world with her model husband. (I don’t think old-fashioned 1950s housewives did that — or even made their own money.) The 23-year-old and her husband Lucky Blue Smith, 26 and also a model, recently traveled to Paris, where she spoke to Vogue about the best way to travel with little kids. While we normally love taking any advice we can get about this headache-inducing activity, Smith’s advice felt lackluster and a bit condescending.
Earlier this week, the German-South African model walked the Miu Miu RTW Spring 2025 show at Paris Fashion Week in a sexy unbuttoned shirt and tiny lace shorts with a black bejeweled jacket over the top. Prior to her walk down the runway, she gave Vogue tips on how she handles traveling with her kids Rumble Honey, 3, Slim Easy, 2, and Whimsy Lou, 5 months.

“The secret when traveling with kids is just doing it,” she said. “You black out, get to the destination, and ask yourself how you got there.”
And … that’s it. No, “Pack all the snacks” or “This is their favorite airplane activity” or even, “Oh, we bring iPads to keep them entertained.” We would even settle for a simple, “A nanny helps us!” Instead, Smith gives an evasive answer of “just doing it” (this isn’t a Nike ad!), and that she just “black[s] out” and it somehow all works out ok. We know she isn’t actually blacking out — have you tried sleeping when toddlers and babies are flying next to you? — so what does she do? How do they decide on seating arrangements? Do they sleep, are they bored? Why wouldn’t she give a real answer to this very real (and exhausting!) experience? For someone who is supposed to be showing moms an idyllic way to live, this answer just feels so dismissive.
The rest of the interview doesn’t give too much more about Smith. For example, her favorite part of Paris is “croissants,” and her fashion sense is guided by her whims. “Throughout pregnancy I leaned more into wearing dresses, because that’s all I could fit, and I refused to buy maternity wear,” she said, adding, “I don’t really box myself in. Whatever I like, I’m gonna wear.”
On social media, she kept things a little more honest, though. Smith posted a selfie on her Instagram story of her and Lucky Blue on their way home. “Tired mom and dad. Got 3 hours of sleep last night and 4 hours the night before,” she wrote over the picture, per PEOPLE. Maybe the whole “black out” comment was meant to summarize how utterly exhausting, stressful, and draining it is to travel with kids? If so, we totally empathize with her — but again, why not just say that?
In a September profile with GQ, the mom of three insisted that she and Lucky just enjoy “sharing our lives online.” “In no way am I saying this is normal or this is something people have to do in order to be a certain way,” Smith told the outlet. “Whether it’s a meal idea, or a home-cooked meal I’ve made my toddler, or my soothing voice or whatever it is, I just put content out there to inspire people. Everyone can take whatever they want from my content.”
These are some of the reality-TV alumnae we love to follow as they tackle motherhood.
