Inside Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney's Low-Key Love Story

Get to know the man who stole Jennifer Lawrence's heart.

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most famous women on the planet, but she and husband Cooke Maroney manage to fly way under the radar. In September 2021, it was reported that the cute couple were expecting their first child; they welcomed their baby, a little boy named Cy, in February 2022, and if you ask J.Law, she couldn't have picked a better husband to embark on this adventure with.

When asked why Maroney is The One, Lawrence gushed about her future husband in June 2019 to Entertainment Tonight, "Well, he's just the best person I've ever met in my whole life. It was a very, very easy decision."

Learn all about Jennifer Lawrence's husband Cooke Maroney, the man who stole the Oscar winner's heart!

Is Jennifer Lawrence married?

Yep! However, just because the 31-year-old Oscar winner is now a Mrs., it doesn't mean she's changed all that much from her days as a single gal loving life with her girlfriends.

In fact, in October 2020, she revealed that her husband sometimes takes a backseat to the other important folks in her life. "I'm married and I have slumber parties like once a week," she confessed on Heather McMahan's Absolutely Not podcast. "My friend came over and it was not planned, but she ended up spending the night and slept in my bed and my husband slept in our guest room."

In another podcast interview (this time in June 2019 on Naked With Catt Sadler), Lawrence confessed that when they met, saying "I do" wasn't necessarily on her to-do list. "I definitely wasn’t at a place where I was like, ‘I’m ready to get married,'" she explained. "I just met Cooke and I wanted to marry him."

In fact, she added, "We wanted to marry each other. We wanted to commit fully ... He’s my best friend, so I want to legally bind him to me forever. And fortunately the paperwork exists for such a thing. It’s the greatest. You find your favorite person on the planet and, you’re like, 'You can’t leave!' So I wanted to take that offer."

Is Jennifer Lawrence pregnant?

Not anymore—she's a mom now! A rep for Lawrence confirmed to PEOPLE in early September 2021 that she and Maroney were expecting their first child together. Around that time, the first paparazzi pics surfaced of J-Law's baby bump peeking through an adorable pair of floral-patterned overalls.

The couple welcomed their son Cy in February 2022. Lawrence revealed that the baby boy was named after painter Cy Twomby, one of Maroney's favorite artists, and that motherhood has changed her in profound ways.

"I mean the euphoria of Cy is just—Jesus, it's impossible," she told Vogue for their October 2022 issue. "I always tell him, 'I love you so much it's impossible.'" She added, "My heart has stretched to a capacity that I didn't know about. I include my husband in that. And then they're both just, like, out there—walking around, crossing streets. He's gonna drive one day. He's gonna be a stupid teenager and be behind the wheel of a car. And I'm just gonna be like, Good night! You know? Like, who sleeps?"

"The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my whole life had started over," she said later on in the interview. "Like, 'Now is day one of my life.' I just stared. I was just so in love," she said, adding, "I also fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing. They're these pink, swollen, fragile little survivors. Now I love all babies. Now I hear a baby crying in a restaurant and I'm like, 'Awwww, preciousssss.' "

When asked what she loves about Maroney, Lawrence told Sadler, "I don't know, I started with the basics: 'How do I feel? Is he nice? Is he kind?' It's just, 'This is the one.' I know that sounds really stupid but he's just... you know. He's the greatest person I've ever met, so I feel very honored to become a Maroney."

When did Jennifer Lawrence get married?

J.Law made it legal with Maroney on Oct. 19, 2019 in Newport, Rhode Island after an eight-month engagement. Celebrity guests included Emma Stone, Amy SchumerKris JennerAdele, Cameron Diaz, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden.

For their wedding site, the couple chose Belcourt Mansion, built as a summer cottage for banking heir and socialite Oliver Belmont and his horses in 1894. The property was purchased by Carolyn Rafaelian, founder and CEO of jewelry company Alex and Ani, in 2012.

The bride reportedly wore a Dior gown, but it seems the high-end label had little to do with why Lawrence chose it; as she told Sadler on her podcast, “I like saw a dress I liked. I said, ‘Oh, that’s the dress.'”

In fact, she maintained a laid-back attitude toward wedding planning... most of the time. As she admitted to Sadler, "I haven’t been neurotic about it [because] I’m too lazy to be neurotic. Yesterday was my only bridezilla moment where I cried 'cause I thought I didn’t want to have a bachelorette party, and then last minute, I decided I did."

Ahead of her wedding, Lawrence also shared her entire, eco-conscious wedding registry via Amazon.

“Planning a wedding is so exciting, but it can be overwhelming,” she said in a statement accompanying the registry. “For anyone else needing a little inspiration, I thought it would be fun to collaborate with Amazon to share a few of my favorite registry wish-list items. It’s so easy, and you can find everything you need all in one place.”

Lawrence admitted in a November 2022 interview with The New York Times that she was apprehensive about changing her name when she tied the knot.

"God, I had such a feminist meltdown about changing my name because it's my identity. It's the first thing I'm given."

However, her fame actually made it easier to change her last name in her personal life.

"I was born with the name Jennifer Lawrence, but that got taken from me when I was 21. And I never got it back," she said. "So it didn't feel like I was giving up anything. That name already belongs to them."
