Issa Rae had a new level of swagger in her step as she strolled down the 2018 Emmys red carpet on Sept. 17. Why? Her jumpsuit.

“This is the best thing I’ve ever done,” the Emmy-nominated Insecure creator and star told us about her ice blue Vera Wang look on the Emmys red carpet Monday. “[I have] the same awkward swagger...it’s hot as hell, but I think my swagger [today] came from wearing pants, if at all. It’s just like, oh I have pants on. It’s a jumpsuit thing.”

“Hopefully I won’t need to go to the bathroom,” she joked. “As you know, it means I have to take the whole thing off, which is not great.” Rae couldn’t resist one more joke as she told us about the one thing no one would guess about her jumpsuit, which came complete with a skirt. “There are 3,000 diamonds on here. It took 100 hours to put each diamond. So I’m rich,” she quipped.

As for Rae’s hit HBO show Insecure, the show was the top trend on Twitter when it aired Sunday night, after fans went wild over Issa’s ex-boyfriend Lawrence (Jay Ellis) popping back up, and her current beau (Kendrick Sampson) pulling a major ghost.

So, what’s the deal? “We have two episodes left, so those answers will come to you very soon,” Rae said, keeping her lips sealed on any other specifics.

Still, she did open up about whether the storylines with Nathan and Lawrence were similar to anything she has experienced in her own life. “The Nathan story is very reminiscent,” she said with a big laugh, adding, “but so is the Lawrence story.”

“I think this episode coming up on Sunday is very, very me. I’m ashamed to say so, but not ashamed. I’ve been there. Watch on Sunday, you’ll see.”

Insecure airs Sundays on HBO at 10:30 p.m.
