Ivanka Trump wore a pantsuit designed by an outspoken critic of the first family

Ivanka Trump attended an Argentinian gala wearing an ivory suit by a designer who reportedly refused to dress the first lady.

At the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires Friday night, Ivanka and Jared Kushner joined President Trump and Melania Trump, along with Argentina’s first couple President Mauricio Macri and Juliana Awada after the first day of the G20 Summit. Ivanka shone in an off-the-shoulder white pantsuit by designer Gabriela Hearst, a designer who has criticized the Trump administration, a detail pointed out by CNN White House reporter Kate Bennett.

“Her 2017 collection was actually inspired by female Democrat Senators, including Kamala Harris and Senator Tammy Duckworth,” tweeted Bennett.

In fact, according to the Wall Street Journal, when asked whether Hearst would ever dress Melania, she replied, “If they want to wear the clothes, they can buy the clothes.”

In 2017, Hearst told Yahoo Lifestyle that after the 2016 presidential election, she drew creative inspiration from Democratic politicians. “Before we were thinking about dressing Hillary and now it’s like, how do we bring Donald Trump down?” she said. “Women that put their strength and their qualities in the service of others seemed like a good reference to keep us motivated.”

Hearst even teamed up with Planned Parenthood — the health organization that the president has promised to defund — to design a limited-edition $699 wool sweater with a design of a ram’s head and ovaries.

“Planned Parenthood right now needs all the help it can get and all the attention it can get,” Hearst told Vogue in May 2017. “For me, it’s not only about my body, my choice, it’s about our overall health. They take care of our cancer screenings. They take care of so many things. And when the government is making a direct attack on women’s health . . . first of all, it’s appalling. And we have to do something.”

In July, when asked by Lifestyle Asia about the president’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, Hearst replied, “This policy is only represented by a very small group of voices right now in the government through the Trump administration, which is a radical outcry of racist values, period.”

Those views haven’t discouraged the Trump women from wearing Hearst — during 2017’s G20 Summit events in Hamburg, Germany, Ivanka wore a $798 forest-green jumpsuit by the designer.

While visiting Microsoft’s Innovation and Policy Center in July, Melania wore a pink-and-blue suit by the designer. And in June 2017, she headed to Camp David wearing a Hearst shirtdress.
