Jameela Jamil says 'we value men much more than women' as she calls out Shia LaBeouf getting 'another chance'

Jameela Jamil isn't mincing words about how there is a double standard for women in Hollywood.

The star of The Good Place appeared on the podcast Exactly. With Florence Given this week to talk about modern-day feminism, and how it's often a struggle for women to be held to the same criteria as their male peers.

Jamil criticized those who believe Shia LaBeouf, who was accused of sexual battery and assault by his ex-girlfriend FKA twigs, deserves "another chance," while stars like Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence — who have both been demonized by the media after enormous career success — are told they can "f*** off."

"We don't label men as 'annoying.' When we don’t like a man, we just don't learn his name and don't bother him at all. He just gets to exist peacefully," the I Weigh podcast host explained. "When we don't like women, we learn everything about them, because maybe there's a part of us that's defensive about not liking that woman. We want to prove that it's not about jealousy or misogyny, so we're going to find anything we can, any morsel, that will justify our profound, visceral hatred of this woman, even if that means going back 15 years into her tweets."

Jamil, who calls herself a "feminist in progress," also declared that "we value men much more than women."

Jamil, who has been an advocate for body acceptance and a one-time vocal critic of the Kardashians for perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards, also explained that she now has a line when it comes to people who are putting forth dangerous ideals.

“We need to check ourselves. Whenever Kim Kardashian does something problematic or any of the Kardashians, people are always in my DMs, every single day, all of their fans in my DMs, [writing], 'Can you call Kim out for this?' And I always write back, nope," she said. "If now a hundred thousand people have already called her out for that thing, I'm not the punisher. I don't need to add my voice to this because then I'm just harassing her. That's not what I'm about."

Jamil previously explained her decision to step away from criticizing the Kardashians in June 2020, writing on Instagram at the time that she had received many DMs asking her to call out a post she made while wearing a waist trainer.

Jamil wrote in her caption, "Kim, like many of us, has had decades of body image issues and obsession. This has been HEAVILY perpetuated by how much the media scrutinized her and her sisters over their appearances. She isn’t actively trying to harm you. She’s just so harmed and deluded into thinking this is what SHE needs to look like to be special and beautiful and she’s spilling it out onto her following. So there’s no point in screaming at her. The smart thing to do is to protect YOURSELF."
