Jason Kelce Makes Tearful Announcement About Final Decision on Retirement

Star Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce announced during a press conference on Monday that he had made the decision to retire from the team after 13 years.

The 36-year-old's decision comes after much speculation into the future of his NFL career, after the Eagles blew a 10–1 lead during the 2023-2024 season, ending abruptly with a 32–9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card playoffs.

Kelce tearfully made his announcement at the Eagles' NovaCare Complex practice facility with his wife Kylie, parents Ed and Donna, and brother Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs in attendance. "Let's see how long this lasts. Not good start," he said, attempting to collect himself.

During his emotional goodbye, the future Hall of Famer thanked his high school football coaches, hockey coaches, lacrosse coaches, and even his band teacher for helping him become the athlete he is today.

"All of you taught me countless lessons and put up with a rambunctious kid that was full of immaturity, stupidity and cockiness," he said through tears. "Without question, I would not be where I am today without your efforts with me and the countless other children you served in my brother and I'd hometown, Cleveland Heights."

Before announcing his retirement, Kelce teased his decision on social media. "No Keg videos this year, I have come to a decision and will address it at a press conference this afternoon," he wrote.

Kelce was a sixth-round draft pick by the Eagles in 2011, and he spent his entire career with Philadelphia. During his tenure, Kelce made six postseason appearances and played in two Super Bowls, leading the team to victory against the New England Patriots in 2018. In 2014, he earned his first of seven Pro Bowl selections, in addition to six All-Pro honors.
