Selma Blair 'appreciated every single second' of her Oscars night: 'This was a streak of light'
The morning after the Oscars was a reflective one for Selma Blair as she looked back at her time at Vanity Fair Oscars party, where she made her first public appearance since revealing in October that she’d been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Blair carried a cane to help with walking as she stepped out in a multicolored gown by Ralph & Russo, featuring a dramatic cape, and teared up while posing for photographers on Sunday night.
As she explained in a lengthy Instagram post on Monday, she “appreciated every single second” of what was an important night for her.
She thanked her “former publicist turned manager, best friend, and fake husband” for accompanying her and remarked that her first time attending the event was something she did with her friend Jake Gyllenhaal when he was not yet famous.
Most of all, she said, it was a confirmation: ” To say I am here.”
“I am still in an exacerbation, so there was some nervousness,” Blair said. “I don’t do anything the way I was once able. I will though. I can regain much.”

Blair wrote in her thank you note that, as someone who’s been acting for more than 20 years, she feels comfortable on the red carpet. She said she “felt the love from the photographers who have watched me goof around on red carpets since I was in my twenties” and “felt the warmth of the bulbs,” “the strength of my gown” and her date’s “attentive touch.”
“And still I hoped my brain could send signals for the remainder of my time there,” she wrote.
Blair later marveled at the fact that she managed to work her way into a photo with the family of Diana Ross.
The emotional post drew a cascade of well-wishes from people — many of them MS patients — who were inspired by Blair.
When a troll commented that Blair should stop “feeling sorry for herself,” Blair herself quickly dismissed it. “In no way is this a sad post. I would like to take this opportunity to say go f*** yourself,” she wrote. “You missed the point. I hope you don’t miss your whole life.”
After one supporter complimented Blair on the dis, the actress mused that it “felt good to have an opportunity to tell a proper twat to f*** off.”
Some of Blair’s famous friends, including Debra Messing, left their own messages of support on her post.
“You are showing people all around the world that through unexpected struggle there is celebration, and victories” the Will and Grace actress wrote in part.
