Jeezy Confirms Split From Wife Jeannie Mai After 2 Years of Marriage
Jeezy and Jeannie Mai are officially calling it quits, new reports reveal.
Multiple sources, including Entertainment Tonight, confirmed the news on Friday, after the rapper filed for divorce in Fulton County Superior Court on Thursday, Sept. 14.
According to the court documents obtained by the outlet, the pair's two-year marriage is "irretrievably broken," with "no hope for reconciliation."
Jeezy, 45, whose full name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, has reportedly requested joint legal custody of their daughter, Monaco, whom they welcomed in January 2022.
Jeezy and Mai, 44, have been linked since 2019, going Instagram official with their relationship that September. The "Put On" artist took their relationship to the next level shortly after, getting down on one knee in March 2020.
Mai shared the news via Instagram at the time, sharing a photo of the romantic proposal at Jeezy's Los Angeles home, and writing, "I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life loving you...YES ????."
A year after their engagement, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Atlanta in March 2021. They initially planned to get married at Lake Como in the South of France but had to change their plans as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"At the end of the day, Jeezy and I really just wanted to become husband and wife," the TV personality previously told Vogue. "So we decided to turn our original wedding into a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends.”
It was just six months later that the pair announced their pregnancy, before welcoming their daughter the following January.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, who first reported the news of Jeezy's divorce filing, the court documents not only request joint legal custody of their daughter but also state that the pair signed a prenuptial agreement before getting married.
