Jennifer Lopez jokes about turning 50 and strips down to her iconic green Versace dress on 'Saturday Night Live'
Don’t be fooled by that tux that she’s got, she’s still, she’s still Jenny with the frock.
Unlike Harry Styles and Chance the Rapper who have done double duty as Saturday Night Live hosts and musical guests this season, Jennifer Lopez focused on her comedic chops for her stint as master of ceremonies on Dec. 7. But while DaBaby was the night’s musical performer, Lopez couldn’t resist showing off her own singing and dancing skills during her monologue.
Following a cold open with guest appearances by James Corden, Paul Rudd and Jimmy Fallon, Lopez took the stage in a tuxedo and began rattling off her highlights from the past year: “being proposed to by a Yankee,” starring in Hustlers and embarking on a world tour. She also mentioned the slit-to-there green Versace dress she wore on the fashion label’s catwalk 20 years after turning heads at the Grammys in the same design.
“I walked the runway at Milan for the first time wearing a dress I wore 20 years ago,” the 50-year-old star told the crowd. “Now some people said I look better now than I did then, and I’m not bragging — that’s just, you know, gossip.”
That last line got laughs from the audience, as did a gag in which castmember Beck Bennett’s head “exploded” after hearing that Lopez had recently turned 50.
After telling fans that “the best is yet to come” — and comparing herself to a cockroach that won’t be written off — Lopez launched into a festive take on “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” with an assist from the Radio City Rockettes.
And while those high kicks were impressive, nothing could top J.Lo’s flashy final act. In a nod to her role as Ramona in Hustlers, Lopez hid behind a chorus line of Rockettes, shed her oversized tux and reemerged in her iconic green dress — looking, as promised, better than ever.
Honestly, if she doesn’t wear that thing to her wedding with Alex Rodriguez, what’s the point?
