Jimmy Buffett's Sister Gives Insight Into Late Singer's Final Days
In the wake of legendary singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett's death, his sister Laurie Buffett McGuane is shedding new light on the end of his life.
Laurie said in his final days, Buffett was surrounded by family, friends and loved ones, recounting their favorite memories and stories of the "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" singer.
"We shared memories of our childhood with Jimmy during his last days," she said while speaking with People. "We would repeat stories, and Jimmy would laugh and nod his head to let us know that he remembered. I have never seen Jimmy depressed ever. Not even at the end. We all like to joke and laugh and that was very much Jimmy."
As she continued, Laurie declared that her famous brother "brought joy to so many," adding, "I am very emotional now."
"When Jimmy was in the world, I felt safe," she further noted. "Even though I have Tom, it will be a whole new thing for me to be without my brother Jimmy."
As Parade previously reported, Buffett died at the age of 76 on Sept. 1 at his Sag Harbor, New York home following a battle with Merkel cell carcinoma, an aggressive type of skin cancer.
According to Laurie and her husband Tom McGuane–who had been a friend of Buffett’s for more than 50 years–even as his health declined, Buffett's laidback island-inspired positive attitude never left.
"He was always high-spirited, fun-loving, hard-working and creative," Tom shared. "It is remarkable to be able to say that he remained the same during the last month of his life. His sense of humor was fully intact. God bless him for keeping himself that way."
