Julia Michaels is the latest celeb to put armpit hair on display: ‘People are always going to have something to say’
Julia Michaels has a message for body shamers responding to social media posts that have her displaying her underarm hair: "Go eat a bag of worms."
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter took to her Instagram on Wednesday to share the selfies, which show her smiling in a white dress with her arm tattoos and armpits on display. But instead of welcoming unsolicited comments on her appearance in the photos, she posted them with a reminder about the importance of self love.
"People are always going to have something to say about you or your body. They will always try to attack you when you're feeling the most happy or the most yourself you've ever been," she wrote. "To that I say go eat a bag of worms."
Michaels received an outpouring of love and support in her comments, including from her boyfriend, singer JP Saxe. "I have many things to say about your body. 1. perfect 2. sexy 3. perfect 4. damn 5. woah 6. ?? 7. holy wow love. 8. come cuddle," he wrote.
Others echoed his sentiment calling Michaels the "prettiest angel in the world."
Some even took to the comment section to share their support of Michaels' putting her body hair on display.
"If body hair was ugly or meant to be shaved, it wouldn't be there in the first place. People need to get this in their mind. Everyone is beautiful," one commented.
Another said, "do whatever makes you feel comfortable!!"
It isn't the first time that Michaels has shown off her unshaved armpits. In fact, she wore a strapless dress on the Grammy's red carpet in March that bared a bit of hair.
She also joins a number of celebrities who have put their body hair on display, including Ashley Graham and Alyssa Milano.
"It has been full-on sweatpants. I'm lucky if I put a bra on in the morning. I haven't shaved my armpits in I don't know how long. My mother is fully disgusted with that by the way, but it's just — things don't matter anymore," Graham shared on an appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna back in August. The model and mom has since become a spokesperson for Flamingo, a razors and waxing company.
Milano similarly posted a selfie to her Instagram with the caption, "Armpit hair, don’t care," and was praised for being so authentic.
"Normalize armpit hair on women!" one person wrote in response to Milano's post. "#FreeTheArmpit" another added.
