Julian Sands Missing After Hiking California Mountain

Search and rescue teams are battling severe weather while trying to locate the 65-year-old actor.

British-born actor Julian Sands is reportedly missing.

The 65-year-old movie star was last seen hiking Mt. Baldy, a mountain outside of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County, California, late last week and hasn't been heard from since.

According to TMZ, Sands' family reported the actor missing on the evening of Friday, Jan. 13, but he wasn't publicly identified as a missing hiker until Wednesday.

Whether he was hiking alone or traveling with someone remains unclear.

Search efforts are underway, but as many outlets have reported, severe weather–including several inches of snow and ice that fell in the region–has made locating the actor extremely difficult for rescue teams.

Gloria Huerta, a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokesperson, told CNN search and rescue crews were on the mountain looking for Sands but had to suspend their efforts due to bad weather and the potential for avalanche conditions. Huerta also noted that drones are still being flown over the area in an attempt to locate the missing actor.

A statement shared by the county's sheriff's department on Facebook also revealed that teams have responded to 14 rescue missions in the Mt. Baldy area and reported the deaths of two hikers in the last four weeks.

Sands moved from England to the North Hollywood area after his 40-year acting career kicked off. He is best known for his roles in some of the most popular movies from the '80s, including A Room With a View, Arachnophobia, Leaving Las Vegas, and Warlock.

In addition to his performances in full-length feature films, Sands also appeared on hit television shows like 24, Smallville, Dexter, Into the Dark, Person of Interest, Castle, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Jackie Chan Adventures, per IMDb.
