What Major Holidays are in June 2024?
June brings about Pride Month 2024, which honors the LGBTQ+ community and uplifts queer people and their struggles everywhere. While it's a celebration, it's also a time to remember the history and obstacles of the past and present, with days like the Stonewall Riots Anniversary on June 28 and Pulse Night of Remembrance on June 12.
The Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha is in June (it varies from year to year because it's based on the moon). The holiday honors the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah's command.
Let's also not forget Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, 2024. This day marks the anniversary of the day Union Major-General Gordon Granger read the Emancipation Proclamation to formerly enslaved people who were now free in Texas on June 19, 1865. This came more than two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, but the news didn't travel to all enslaved people and wasn't enforced.
Another major holiday or observance in June is Father's Day, which lands on June 16, 2024, which is, of course, a great day to thank all of the father figures in our lives.
