Kate Middleton Wore A Familiar Checkered Coat For A Rugby Match
The Prince, 40, and Princess, 41, of Wales headed to Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday, February 25 for the Wales vs. England Six Nations rugby match but only one went home with the royal bragging rights, as they support different teams. William rooted for Wales and Kate for England. Kate (who is reportedly welcoming baby number four in 2023!) attended the game in a red checkered coat that she previously wore in 2018 for a visit to Sweden.
Kate Middleton Dons A “Diplomatic” Red And White Coat For The Wales Vs. England Rugby Game
The Prince and Princess of Wales went to Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday for the Wales vs. England rugby match. Prince William has supported the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016. Princess Kate, on the other hand, has been a patron of England with the Rugby Football League and the Rugby Football Union.

After becoming the Prince of Wales upon the death of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth, William was tactfully able to show his support for both teams in last year’s World Cup. “I support both. I support England more in the football but Wales in the rugby,” Prince William said when asked about his rooting interests in the global soccer tournament. “When I was growing up, Wales didn’t get through to the tournaments. Getting to the World Cup is a big deal, and I’ll be supporting Wales through the process.”
For the game, the Princess of Wales donned a "diplomatic" red and white Catherine Walker houndstooth coat that she first wore back in 2018 during an overseas trip to Sweden. This isn't the first time that Kate's repeated a stylish outfit (check out the one-shoulder Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the BAFTAs!). William, meanwhile, kept warm in a blue suit and a simple black coat, which he accessorized with a red scarf and red tie around his neck.
William described her outfit as "diplomatic" to a fellow attendee because red and white are the colors of the two opposing teams' jerseys. The double-breasted coat is knee-length, has a collar, and is finished with oversized glossy red buttons. Catherine Walker & Co. created the coat for Kate to wear in Stockholm, Sweden in 2018 when she was 6 or 7 months pregnant. It seems she's had the garment tailored so that she can continue to wear it day-to-day.
She put a fresh spin on the coat for the game by pairing it with a black roll-neck sweater dress, matching tights, ankle boots, and a white handbag. The outfit was the perfect balance between comfort and style.
For shoes, she wore the Aquatalia Ruby Dry boots in black suede. And, the Princess carried her white Mulberry Amberley handbag to the match, cleverly matching the white houndstooth check of her coat. Kate opted for a pair of sparkling white gold earrings from Mappin and Webb. The princess finished her look with a sparkling rose brooch pinned to her coat. It appears to be an official England Rugby piece (the team's emblem is a rose).
