Kate Middleton's Gold Necklace Was a Sweet Tribute to Her Kids
Yesterday, the Duchess of Cambridge traveled to Cardiff to promote her new survey about early childhood development, but she kept her own kids close to her heart with by wearing a chic gold necklace.
Kate chose a real high-low look for her away day, styling a midi-length Zara skirt with a slim black turtleneck, and a camel coat from Massimo Dutti. Around her neck, she wore a £1,070 (roughly $1,400) piece by British jewelry designer Daniella Draper, which has been engraved with the initials "G, C, and L," in honor of her children: George, Charlotte, and Louis.
If you look closely, you can see the tiny tribute here:
During her visit to the Ely and Caerau Children’s Centre, Kate opened up about her difficult experience becoming a mother for the first time while living away from her family in Anglesey, where Prince William had been stationed as a Search and Rescue pilot after their 2011 wedding.
"If only I had had a center like this," she said, referencing when Prince George was a baby.
"It was the first year and I’d just had George–William was still working with Search and Rescue and we came up here and I had a tiny tiny baby in the middle of Anglesey, it was so isolated, so cut off," she said. "I didn’t have any family around and he was doing night shifts."
Kate has previously spoken about how lonely motherhood can be. Notably, in 2017, she said "It is lonely at times and you do feel quite isolated, but actually so many other mothers are going through exactly what you are going through."
Her experiences feeling that isolation have no doubt led her to focus on children and family life in her philanthropic efforts as a member of the royal family.
“I want to hear the key issues affecting our families and communities so I can focus my work on where it is needed most," Kate recently said in a statement about her new survey. "My ambition is to provide a lasting change for generations to come.”
