Katie Lee Biegel's Caramel Apple French Toast Sandwiches Are Breakfast Goals
Since becoming a mom, Katie Lee Biegel, chef and co-host of The Kitchen on Food Network, has become more enthusiastic about the holidays. "It is so much more fun to experience it with my daughter," she tells Parade.
Biegel is a fan of an early Thanksgiving dinner, serving her turkey and all the side dishes around 2 or 3 pm. And it's clear Biegel also believes in Thanksgiving breakfast!

In honor of the upcoming Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Biegel has collaborated with Wonder Bread to dream up what’s likely to be the autumnal holiday breakfast of your dreams. Meet her Caramel Apple French Toast Sandwich.
“This is a really excellent choice if you want to serve a fun, decadent breakfast while watching the Thanksgiving parade," Biegel says. Nothing says fall like apples and caramel, and this warming French toast has all the autumn vibes. Pillowy slices of Wonder Bread get smeared in whipped cream cheese and sandwiched with caramelized apples. From there, each sandwich is topped with crushed corn cereal for crunch, and then toasted in butter until golden brown and perfect. Top with powdered sugar, whipped cream and caramel sauce to start your Thanksgiving off on the sweetest note.
Biegel’s French toast recipe comes together quickly, because we know that you might be cooking just a few other things this Thursday. If you want to make things even easier, Biegel suggests making the caramel apple filling the night before, which makes it even easier to whip up this epic Thanksgiving breakfast.

Katie Lee Biegel's Caramel Apple French Toast Sandwiches
Ingredients
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
2 crisp apples, (like Gala or Braeburn)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1. First make the apples: Melt 1/4 cup butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add brown sugar, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring, until butter dissolves. Stir in apples and cinnamon. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cook, stirring often, until apples are softened, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat.
2. Spread each slice of bread with cream cheese. Divide the apples evenly among four slices of bread and top with the remaining bread to build sandwiches.
3. Whisk the eggs, milk, granulated sugar and vanilla together in a shallow dish. Carefully dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture and turn to coat. Sprinkle the top of each sandwich with crushed cereal.
4. Melt the 3 tablespoons butter on a griddle over medium heat. Cook the sandwiches until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Dust with confectioners' sugar, top with whipped cream, drizzle with caramel sauce and serve.
