Kellie Pickler Breaks Silence on Husband’s Death: ‘Darkest Time in My Life’

Kellie Pickler shared a poignant statement regarding the tragic passing of her husband and fellow musician Kyle Jacobs, who died earlier this year.

"One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still,'" she told People. "I have chosen to heed his advice."

"Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way," the 37-year-old American Idol alum continued. "It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers."

Pickler also included details for Jacobs’ upcoming memorial service. "I am planning an intimate memorial for my husband, which will happen later this fall, that is what Kyle would have wanted.”

"Love & Blessings, Kellie," she concluded.

Jacobs died unexpectedly this past February and the circumstances suggested he died by suicide, but it wasn't until three months later, in May 2023, that an autopsy report confirmed the 49-year-old's cause of death.

According to preliminary reports, on Feb. 17 Metro Nashville Police initially told TMZ"Mr. Jacobs' wife, Kellie Pickler, reported that she awoke a short time earlier, did not see her husband, and began looking for him." The statement continued, "After she and her personal assistant were unable to open the door to the upstairs bedroom/office, the assistant telephoned 911."

Pickler and Jacobs were married for over a decade, saying "I do" in a January 2011 ceremony and later offering fans an inside glimpse at their lives together while starring in the 2015 reality series I Love Kellie Pickler. Jacobs also worked in the industry, writing songs for other country music stars like Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson, Darius Rucker, and Garth Brooks.
