King Charles Pens Touching Tribute to Queen Elizabeth

King Charles III is remembering his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on the first anniversary of her passing. "In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us," he said in a statement.

"I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife [Queen Camilla] and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all."

Elizabeth earned the title of the U.K.'s longest-reigning monarch and died at 96 years old. Her funeral was held on Sept. 18, 2022, and was notable for many reasons, including that it reunited estranged brothers Prince William and Prince Harry, both of whom have acknowledged the anniversary of the Queen's death as well.

Meantime, Harry, who is in the U.K. for The WellChild Awards 2023, stopped by his grandmother's burial site. Although the Queen died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, she was buried at Windsor Castle alongside other members of the royal family, including her parents, sister, Margaret, and husband, Prince Philip.

Harry spoke about his grandmother at The WellChild Awards. "As you know, I was unable to attend the awards last year as my grandmother passed away,' he told the attendees. "...She would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her. And that's precisely why I know, exactly one year on, she is looking down on all of us tonight, happy we're together continuing to spotlight such an incredible community."
