Ladies group brings together thousands of women in North Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala (WHNT) — No matter your age, job title, or how long you’ve lived in North Alabama, a group called “ladies’ night out” is ready to welcome you.

Their goal is to bring women together from all walks of life.

“She just wanted to get a few women together where we could go out on the weekends, and she said, ‘I never dreamed it would be like this,'” said Judy Helphand.

Shelia Cox Irwin started the group in March. She’s a travel nurse practitioner based out of the Huntsville area.

She was looking to find a community to hang out with on the days she was home.

Judy Helphand was one of the first members to join.

“I looked and it was just starting,” said Helphand. “She was just getting people joined, and it was maybe 6 or 8, I guess. In four months, we’ve got 2200 women in it. She never dreamed it would get that big.”

They do all types of things from grabbing a bite to eat, reading the same book, hiking, themed nights and more.

The group’s fast growth has led to some kind of event happening every night of the week now.

“There’s, like, probably at least five groups, different groups, different ages,” said Helphand. “They get together every night of the week. There might be five different events going on every night, seven days a week.”

Their ages range from ages 20 to 78.

Helphand said the group has a good time no matter what they are doing, or who’s joining in.

“They are so funny, some of them… Everywhere we go, people get a kick out of it,” she said.

If you are interested in joining the group, you can find the details on their Facebook page.
