Lady Gaga Just Paid Tribute to Judy Garland in the 1954 Version of A Star Is Born at the Golden Globes
Lady Gaga may be nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as Ally in A Star Is Born, the fourth adaptation of the film, but she hasn't forgotten the women who played the role before her.
The singer-turned-movie star made a statement on the Golden Globes red carpet this evening in a voluminous Valentino Couture gown. She went with a fully monochromatic look for the event, even dying her hair to match the gorgeous cornflower blue dress.
The outfit in itself was enough to guarantee the singer-turned-actress a spot on a number of best-dressed lists, but it also represented a subtle tribute to Judy Garland, who played the titular "star" in the 1954 version of A Star Is Born. As Twitter user @juanruizj pointed out, Gaga's dress paid homage to one worn by Garland's character wore in the film.
This isn't the first time Gaga has tipped her sartorial hat to a previous iteration of the film. At the September premiere of the movie, Gaga wore a shimmering Givenchy Haute Couture look, similar to the one Barbra Streisand wears on stage in the 1976 adaptation of the film.
As Gaga is both a presenter and a nominee at tonight's awards ceremony, there's still a chance we might see her make a quick change to wear something reminiscent of Janet Gaynor and her character in the original 1937 film.
Gaga a contender in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama category tonight, but it's tough competition. She's up against heavy hitters: Glenn Close (The Wife), Nicole Kidman (Destroyer), Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and Rosamund Pike (A Private War).
