Lea Michele shares empowering message as she tries on bikinis postpartum: ‘Feeling very grateful for this body’
Lea Michele has an empowering message for new moms.
On Wednesday, the 34-year-old actress took to her Instagram Stories to share photos of herself trying on swimsuits less than a year after she and husband Zandy Reich welcomed their son, Ever, in August. In one photo, she can be seen wearing a bikini.
"Feeling very grateful for this body right now for its strength in making a baby!" she captioned the photo.
This is not the first time that the Glee alum has opened up about her postpartum body. Two months after having her son, she shared a photo of herself going on a hike.
"9 weeks postpartum- taking some time to move my body! Feels so good!" Michele wrote.
Fans took to the comments to show their love and support.
"You look amazing!" one fan wrote, with another adding, "Go you lea!!! I'm so proud of you!" Others chimed in, "You look amazing!" and, "So amazingly gorgeous."
Michele is not the only famous mom celebrating her postpartum body. Over the last several years, many high profile stars have been using social media to normalize post-baby body positivity in a society that has for so long promoted "the bounce back." In March, Brie Bella shared a photo of herself on Instagram showing her belly and captioned the image by opening up about the bodily changes she'd seen since giving birth via C-section last year.
"The more baby weight I lose the more my treasure marks from Buddy are showing up," she wrote. "Buddy pretty much grew through my belly button lol I guess the old wives tales were right how boys grow! Low!! After my second C section I’ve been really kicking my butt to get my abs back! And sooo is the saggy stomach which is normal after babies. I always tell myself to be kind and grateful but I’m human so picking myself apart happens...Instead of tearing yourself down, you build yourself up. You might see me at the pool in my one piece but I’m showing all of you that my treasure marks are something special. They remind me of a special connection I got to share with my sweet babies for 9 months."
In 2018, actress Tia Mowry was transparent about the pressures of trying to bounce back after giving birth. Having just had her second child, Cairo, Mowry kept it real about what her body looked like weeks after getting birth.
"7 weeks #postpartum. Some #pregnant women after giving birth no longer have a belly after 7 weeks. While others it may take a little longer. Me, I’m the latter...I had seen in magazines the many women on the beach a few weeks #postpartum in a two piece. To be honest, it had to take time for me to embrace my new body. With this second pregnancy, I now have embraced that fact that I’ve housed a human being. A miracle. A life. If it takes a while for me to get back to my normal self, than so be it. This.Is.Me. And I love me," she wrote.
