Lenny Kravitz Credits Lisa Bonet With Transforming His Career
Lenny Kravitz is Men's Health November cover star.
In an interview with Alex Pappademas, Kravitz spoke about his ex-wife and actress, Lisa Bonet.
They apparently remain close friends nearly 30 years after their separation.
Besides baggy jeans and fanny packs, the '90s birthed another fashionable trend: the iconic celebrity couple. But among the famous pairings splashed across tabloids of the time, no duo emerged from the decade quite as successfully as Lenny Kravitz and The Cosby Show actress Lisa Bonet.
In the November cover story for Men's Health, Kravitz revealed that the two remain good friends, having co-parented daughter and actress Zo? Kravitz. (Lenny and Bonet separated in 1991 and later divorced in 1993.) He also says Bonet was a huge influence on his smash-hit debut 1989 album, Let Love Rule, and career.
“It was the first time I’d opened up like that, and had known love like that, and freedom," he shared. "And watching her do what she did, how she maneuvered, in her artistic life—it was that last thing I needed, on this road. This sound, this message, this movement that I was looking for—I heard it in my head." Bonet would go on to cowrite two songs on his record, "Fear" and "Rosemary." She'd also appear in the music video for "Let Love Rule."
Kravitz and Bonet famously met in a backstage elevator during a New Edition concert in the '80s. They married in 1987 and Bonet gave birth to daughter Zo? a year later. In 1991, the year of their separation, Kravitz would go on to write "It Ain't Over 'Til It Over" because of her.
Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, would later marry Bonet in 2017. Kravitz shared that he's "tight" with Momoa, too. We're guessing Thanksgiving at the Kravitz household is a fun time.
