My Life in Books episode 4: Jojo Moyes on therapy, Bridget Jones and her secret writing weapon
Welcome to the Telegraph's new books podcast, My Life in Books.
In this series some of Britain's favourite novelists - Sebastian Faulks, Marian Keyes, Ruth Jones and Louis de Bernières - discuss their lives, childhoods and careers, as well as the three books that shaped them.
For the fourth episode in the series, we welcome one of Britain's bestselling novelists, Jojo Moyes, who has written 12 novels including Me Before You, which has sold more than eight million copies and was turned into a film starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, for which Moyes wrote the screenplay.
In this episode, Moyes talks about the making of that film, the influence that Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones's Diary had on her career, and her secret writing weapon - an electronic massage chair.
She also opens up about taking eight years of trying before her first novel was published, as well as her former career as a journalist - and needing therapy after she left the profession. 'I had to have therapy because I missed newsrooms so much,' she admits. 'Suddenly it was just me and a laptop in the middle of the countryside and I found that very hard.'
Moyes discusses her new novel, Still Me, the third in the Me Before You trilogy.
New episodes are released each week on Thursdays at 11am. Next week's guest is Ruth Jones.
