M&M's and Vanessa Bayer Teamed Up For Red Nose Day
Saturday Night Live alum Vanessa Bayer is no stranger to giving back - or to devouring Peanut M&M's - so when the candy company asked her to join its Red Nose Day efforts, it was an obvious yes. The charitable organization is committed to ending child poverty, and with partners like Bill and Melinda Gates, NBC, Walgreens, and M&M's, they've raised over $100 million in just three years.
Red Nose Day has gotten celebrities like Bayer, Ed Sheeran, Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell to don a clown nose in the name of comedy. This year, Bayer's first time working directly with the cause, she hosted a comedy class at Second City. Local Chicago teens were treated to a Skype session with Bayer where she shared all her best performing tips. She spent time with and attended the teens' performance last week, which raised money for the Red Nose Day organization.
"I think comedy is a great outlet for them," Bayer told Delish. "It can be very uplifting and inspiring." Along with tips from Bayer, the kids and comedian had tons of M&M's to keep everyone motivated while rehearsing. Bayer, whose hilarious characters included Miley Cyrus and a Totino's-loving housewife, prefers Peanut and Crispy M&M's. She was also kind enough to spill her best candy hack: "A trick someone taught me is to put candy in your popcorn," she said. "That's a great move."
While we had her on the phone, we obviously had to ask about the food that kept her and the SNL cast going on long nights. The short answer - whatever was in front of her. Popcorn and pizza were common, but there was never a shortage of food on set, she says. As for her Chicago pick? Giordano's deep dish pizza, even though she admits, "the older I get, the less it seems like a good idea."
To support Red Nose Day, pick up your own red nose at Walgreens stores nationwide, or tune in to NBC this Thursday, May 24 to watch the Red Nose Day Special.
