All of Margot Robbie's 'Barbie' Press Tour Outfits, and the Barbie Looks That Inspired Them

Unless you've been living under a rock (or you're a doll trapped in a Barbie Dream House waiting for your BFF to come play with you), you are aware of the upcoming release of Barbie. The marketing budget for this film must be 3X the GDP, with advertisements everywhere, product tie-ins rolling out, and a soundtrack stacked with Grammy winners releasing new tracks daily.

Perhaps the most compelling bit of viral marketing however, has been Margot Robbie's worldwide press tour. The cast and crew of Barbie have already traveled to four continents promoting the film, and Robbie's outfits have caused quite the stir, mostly because they've been based on actual Barbie doll costumes. Eagle-eyed fans quickly started connecting her red carpet looks with those worn by the world's most famous doll, and the pattern has been repeating. Here's all of Margot Robbie's press tour outfits and the Barbie clothes that inspired them:

At the Barbie premiere in Los Angeles, Robbie donned a floor-length black gown that mimicked that of a classic 1960s singing Barbie. Robbie's look was Schiaparelli Haute Couture and copied the original down to the rose on the tulle base of the dress.

While at a Mexico City press stop, Robbie dressed as 1992's Totally Hair Barbie, a doll with hair down to its ankles for children to style. Robbie copied the look with an Emilio Pucci print dress and wavy hair extensions, that didn't quite make it to her feet, but certainly cascaded longer than Robbie's usual locks.

At the Mexico City premiere, Robbie wore a neon pink Balmain number, but the giveaway as to the inspiration for this look was certainly the large silver belt and matching earrings. Robbie again wore the long crimped hair to complete the '80s ensemble.

Sparkling Pink Barbie

In Seoul, South Korea, Robbie channeled a well dressed Barbie from 1964 who rocked a sparkly pink skirt suit set. Robbie upgraded the look quite a bit with a Moschino set that included a pill box hat and exposed some midriff (something that Barbies in 1964 weren't doing much of).

At the Seoul premiere, Robbie copied not one, but two iconic Barbie looks from the 1985 "Day-to-Night" collection which showed that Barbie could be a business woman by day, but also clean up for an evening event. Robbie started the evening in this calve-length skirt suit set, complete with a large scarf and hat. It was designed by Versace.

Part 2 of the Day-to-Night ensemble was also from Versace and paired a shimmery top with a tulle skirt. The outfit reveal was giving a bit of Lady Gaga at the Camp Met Gala if you ask me.

While in Sydney, Australia, Robbie wore this pink turtleneck sweater with a shiny pink mini-skirt (which were more Versace). I wasn't able to figure out which Barbie look this corresponded to, but there had to be a pink sweater Barbie in the lineup at some point. I need to consult an expert.

Happy Birthday Barbie

Not quite as one-for-one as some of her other looks, Robbie's metallic Versace look she wore in Sydney could be inspired by this Happy Birthday Barbie dress, which is a similar length and fabric. Robbie opted out of the choker though.

Black-and-White Bathing Suit Barbie

Perhaps Barbie's most iconic look is her black-and-white striped bathing suit which came with the original Barbie back in 1959. At the Sydney stop of the press tour, Robbie wore a Herve? Le?ger dress in a similar pattern as an homage to the original Barbie. She completed the look with a similar hairstyle, heels and sunglasses.

Pink & Fabulous Barbie

Another of the more loosely inspired numbers, Robbie's look to the Los Angeles photo call was a pink and white polka dot dress that resembled one Barbie wore in 2015. The yellow purse is the tie-in between the two as the silhouette and cutouts are a bit different on Robbie's Valentino dress.

Barbie Convertible

Barbie is or course well known for driving a pink convertible, and in an early photo shoot on the press tour, she posed with one in a Bottega Veneta look.

Robbie kicked off the Barbie press tour back at Cinema Con, where she wore a pink and white checked number, similar to one she wears in the film. These looks helped inspire a new Barbie doll that is based on the film, who also rocks a pink and white checked dress.
