For those planning on hosting a party this holiday season Martha Stewart has an effective trick for getting rid of guests if they linger for too long afterward.

The home and hospitality expert appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday, Dec. 8, to whipped up some festive treats perfect for holiday parties.

"Martha, if you're throwing a dinner party and it's, like, that time and you want everybody to leave, what's a great way to get people to leave out of the dinner party, especially during the holidays?" Drew Barrymore asked.

"Frankly, I just say, 'I'm going to bed. See you,'" Stewart said. "I do. I just say that."

Barrymore followed up her question with another: "What if they keep hanging out?"

"Well, just turn the lights off," Stewart replied, adding, "Set off the fire alarm. One night, I had the fire department show up. Nobody would leave. We just put the fire alarm on."

After the audience laughed in surprise, Stewart clarified, "Not really, we did have a malfunction in the furnace and the whole fire department showed up."

She continued: "The fire chief came in, he told everybody, 'Get out outside,' It was like zero outside. And he made everybody go out without their coats. That's one way to get rid of them."

"I like that tactic," Barrymore agreed.

There you have it! If you find yourself checking your watch while hosting a Christmas party this year, just casually announce you're heading to bed. Martha Stewart said so!
