Marvel Releases Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania Documentary
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania hit cinemas back in February, kicking off phase 5 of Marvel’s cinematic universe. Now, with the release of a behind-the-scenes documentary, you can see how it was made.
Marvel has a solid track record for making-ofs. Its docuseries, Marvel Studios: Assembled, originally hit Disney+ in March 2021, and explored the making of Wandavision. Since, every major Marvel film and series has been given the same treatment, from Loki and Moon Knight, to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
While a piece of material like Marvel Studios: Assembled: The Making of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is inevitably going to steer clear of revelation and scandal (tellingly, there doesn't appear to be any showing from the film's central villain Jonathan Majors, who's currently embroiled in alleged assault allegations), it’s always interesting to see how a project of this scale comes together.
The documentary features talking head interviews with the main cast (including Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van-Dyne), forays into the extensive costume and makeup department, and the all-important blooper reel.
Marvel’s marketing team is clearly on a different wave to Studio Ghibli’s, as The Boy and the Heron opens strong despite no promotion.
