‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Is Basically ‘Gilmore Girls’ in the ’50s
Listen up, Gilmore Girls fans: Amy Sherman-Palladino, your favorite show’s creator, has a new fast-talking series called The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And if the trailer is any indication, it will definitely soothe your complicated feelings about Rory Gilmore’s love child.
Set in 1958 New York City, the clever new period piece tells the story of a young woman named Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) who leads a fabulous life with her husband and two children on the Upper West Side…until it all goes to hell. When her husband leaves her for another woman, Midge guzzles wine straight from the bottle and turns to stand-up comedy. Spoiler alert: She’s got the wit of a Gilmore and the sass of Michel, so she quickly makes a splash on the comedy scene.
Tony Shalhoub and Alex Borstein join the House of Cards alum in what will surely be our new favorite show when it hits Amazon on November 29. (If you have a Prime membership, it’s available for streaming—hooray!)
With Sherman-Palladino writing and directing the series, it’s no surprise The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has already gotten the green light for two seasons.
Now if you’ll excuse us, we’d like to try this whole “guzzling wine from the bottle” thing.
