May's full flower moon
As spring comes to an end, its final full moon, the Flower Moon, will appear overhead this month. Its name, while feminine and ever-so enchanting, pays tribute to the abundance of pretty, new blooms that blossom during this time of the year. And while one might foresee it having a rosy hue to complement its floral moniker, that’s unfortunately not the case, as it actually has a golden appearance while it rises in the east that later fades to white as it moves through the galaxy overhead.
To find out more about May's full Flower Moon, we spoke to astrologer Bella Popa, AKA "Astro Bella Luna" to her 1 million+ fans on TikTok and 222k followers on Instagram. She not only breaks down when the full moon will appear, its spiritual significance and the effects it will have on people, but she also explains why this month’s full moon is extra special thanks to the relationship it has with other planets during its occurrence.

She notes that onlookers will actually have the chance to see it on a couple of different days since it will be below the horizon the morning it rises. “It will reach its peak illumination at 9:53 am EDT on the May 23, meaning that the best time to see it will be the night before, on the 22nd, and on the night of the 23rd,” she clarifies.

What Is May’s Flower Moon’s Spiritual Meaning?
Did you know that the Flower Moon has a very significant and bountiful spiritual connection? It’s true! “The Flower Moon arrives in the sign of Sagittarius, which is the sign most connected to higher wisdom and faith,” Papa shares. “It signifies the first full moon to happen in May and is special because it is happening on one of the most positive days in astrologically this year, since it’s the day when Venus and Jupiter will be aligned in the sky at the same time.
When they both come together, Papa reveals the planets will bring about an increase of luck and positive emotions.
“The moon will be opposing both planets, which will directly contribute to the abundance and pleasure we experience that day,” she says. “Because of this, it will be a great time to release any overthinking thoughts and ideas of worry, and instead adopt a deeper sense of trust in the universe and in yourself.”

How Does May’s Flower Moon Affect You?
Good news: Papa claims that the Flower Moon will have a powerful impact on people’s emotions (in a great way) and in some cases, it will even help clear up past experiences.
“Full moons in astrology are a time of heightened emotion, which is why you can feel very energized and extroverted during them,” she explains. “They bring things to light and into fruition, therefore helping you see the result of your previous actions. This full moon is happening in the sign of Sagittarius, so if you think back to what you started during the Sagittarius new moon, which happened on December 12, 2023, you may see the results of those efforts now. However, the results you see might be very fortuitous because of the extremely positive astrology of the day.”

What Energy Does May’s Flower Moon Bring?
When it comes to the energy of this month’s full moon, Papa says it’s all-around positive. “Overall, its energy will be incredibly healing and inspiring,” she reveals. “This particular full moon will be the perfect time for you to celebrate how far you’ve come. You will be able to easily see the cup half full and embrace optimism, which is why you should allow yourself to feel good and indulge during this time, because you’ve earned it.”
Papa continues to tell Parade that the Flower Moon’s good energy is a result of its relationships with other planets at this particular time. “The energy of May’s full moon is quite harmonious due to the positive aspects it is making to other planets,” she discloses, adding, “It is making a sextile to Pluto, the planet of depth and transformation, which can shine a light on how much you’ve grown and evolved as a person through the challenges you’ve endured.”
The Flower Moon isn’t only being impacted by Pluto, but Papa says Neptune is leaving its mark too. “The moon is making a trine to Neptune, the planet of mysticism and spirituality, which can help people deeply align with their intuition and inner knowing,” she adds.
Besides those two planets, Papa notes that Venus and Jupiter are also playing a part in the Flower Moon’s energy.
“Venus, the planet of love, beauty and art, will be conjoined with Jupiter, the planet of abundance and expansion, on the same day and together, those planets will be opposing this full moon,” Papa says. “Their energy will make you feel optimistic and inspired by life during this time. Your creativity will also be heightened and so will your sense of romance and connection to beauty”.
