Meet the Gear IconX: Samsung's First Truly Wireless Earbuds
Samsung just announced a pair of fitness-oriented wireless earbuds called Gear IconX. Unlike today's commonly seen Bluetooth headphones, the IconX earbuds are not connected to each other with a cable, thus delivering a seamless fit and completely wire-free experience.
Designed to work with Android smartphones, the Gear IconX will utilize the Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity standard. The headphones pack 4GB of built-in memory, which allows them to store up to 1,000 songs for enjoying tunes without a smartphone. Users can control the playback via swiping gestures.
Other key hardware features of the Samsung Gear IconX include a built-in accelerometer and heart-rate sensor. Each earbud has a duo of microphones for crisp phone calls and noise isolation.
The earbuds have splash resistant nano coating and weigh only a mere 6.3 grams each. Charging the Gear IconX takes place via a carrying case with a built-in battery.
The Gear IconX headphones will be available to order in the weeks ahead for $200 in black, white, or blue. It's worth noting that Samsung is the first major tech company to release such a product to the marketplace.
