Meghan Markle has actually been doing her own makeup for years - here are her best tips
Long before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex, she was an actress on a budget. That means, no glam squad available to make her look her best. So along the way, the California native adopted some amazing makeup routine secrets that are still worthy for a Royal.
Her close friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin revealed that Meghan sometimes travels sans makeup artist. In her most recent trip to Dublin, Ireland the duchess has been doing her signature natural look all on her own.
When a fan asked Martin on Instagram whether he had created her makeup look at the RAF service at Westminster Abbey this week, Martin revealed: “I didn’t [do the make-up] but she’s so good herself, right!?
“She did her make-up herself for this.”

The 36-year-old appears to have gone for a minimal-makeup look: Just a touch of blush, pink lipstick, brown eyeshadow, and mascara. This look has been Markle’s go-to makeup vibe since long before she was a royal.
“My routine is very simple — I call it the five-minute face,” she told Allure in back 2014. “It’s just Touche éclat, curled lashes, mascara, ChapStick, and a little bit of blush. That is my favorite kind of look. If I’m going to amp it up for [the] night, then I use M.A.C. Teddy eyeliner, which is a really beautiful brown that has some gold in it.”
Throughout the years, Meghan has shared her favorite products and tips for achieving that perfect dewy “no makeup” makeup glow.
Foundation
The Duchess is known to let her freckles be very visible, even on her wedding day.
“Only apply foundation to the spots you need it and spread it with a beauty blender. I never want to cover my freckles, so we just do a ‘wash’ of foundation in certain sections instead of over the entire face,” Meghan told Beauty Banter in 2016.
Also, her light foundation might be the secret to letting her flawless skin be. “I don’t wear foundation unless I’m filming, so this is what I put on every day after moisturizer to give my skin a dewy glow,” Markle told Today.
Lips
According to Hello, Charlotte Tilbury makes one of Meghan’s favorite lipsticks. Her preferred shade? “Very Victoria,” a taupe nude matte that the Duchess reportedly wore for her engagement day photos.
Blush
“I love Nars blush in Orgasm. I use it on and off camera because it gives you a nice glow from within,” Meghan told Allure.
Eyes
“I learned to add the smallest touch of shimmer to the inner corner of the eye after they’re lined. I use Chanel Cassis Eyeliner on my upper lash line and water line, and then a touch of shimmer powder adds a brightness and sparkle. Even if I have no makeup on, I am likely to apply concealer and a bit of shimmer to the corners of my eye.” Meghan told The Lady Loves Couture.
Mascara
According to Allure, the Duchess’ favorite mascara is Diorshow Iconic.
Hair
While she was on set filming Suits, Markle frequently used Oribe Dry Texturizing spray, according to Birchbox. She said the trick is to bend forward, spray the dry shampoo, then “flip back hard” for “a little extra bounce.”
Skin
Her favorite moisturizer is the affordable Nivea Skin Firming Hydration cream which reportedly makes her skin look and feel amazing. “I would buy a case of this at a time if I could find it,” she said.
