Meghan Markle wears bold green dress, reunites with Kate Middleton in final appearance as senior royal
And that’s a wrap! After less than two years — and for Prince Harry, a lifetime — of royal service, Meghan Markle has made her final official engagement on behalf of the crown.
The duchess, who returned to the U.K. last week for the first time since she and Prince Harry announced their intention in January to step back as senior members of the royal family, joined her husband for a Commonwealth Day service at London’s Westminster Abbey on Monday. The occasion marks their last royal obligation before embarking on a new life, with infant son Archie, as private citizens residing in North America. It was also the first time since November, when the royals gathered for Remembrance Day, that Meghan has been seen in public alongside Kate Middleton.

Continuing her recent streak of wearing bold colors in her final days as a senior royal — and echoing sister-in-law Kate’s all-green ensemble in Ireland last week — Meghan made a vibrant splash in a bespoke clover-hued dress with a draped cape-style feature by British designer Emilia Wickstead. Style blog Meghans Mirror reports that the former actress paired the look with a matching William Chambers fascinator accented with a spray of dark netting, a forest green satin handbag by Gabriella Hearst, taupe Aquazzura heels and diamond Birks Snowstorm earrings.
Prince Harry, meanwhile, opted for a blue suit paired with a printed sky blue tie for the royal event, which was also attended by sister-in-law Kate. Like Meghan, the Duchess of Cambridge stood out in a strong color choice, wearing a deep red Catherine Walker dress suit with a floral-embellished fascinator and burgundy heels, clutch and gloves.
The final royal engagement comes two months and one day after Meghan and Harry announced their plans to step back from royal duties, news that has sparked great controversy.
