Meghan McCain lashes out at 'child' Trump over report USS John S. McCain was kept 'out of sight' during Japan trip
A new report from the Wall Street Journal claims that U.S. Navy officials were advised to keep the warship USS John S. McCain, which honors the late Arizona senator John McCain as well as his father and grandfather, out of Donald Trump’s view during his trip to Japan. The president has frequently criticized the former POW, who died last August at age 81.
“USS John McCain needs to be out of sight,” an official for the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command reportedly insisted in an email to Navy and Air Force administrators, citing orders from the White House.
According to the Wall Street Journal, a tarp was placed over the warship, which is undergoing repairs, to obscure its name. A paint barge was reportedly also docked near the warship to help hide it, while soldiers who typically wear the USS McCain insignia on their caps, were given the day off. However, officials for the Navy say that the ship was returned to its “normal configuration” by the time Trump arrived in Japan last Saturday. There, he was greeted by members of the military wearing potentially code-breaking patches reading “Make Aircrew Great Again” in a riff on his MAGA slogan.
Trump has tweeted a statement denying any knowledge of the efforts to hide the warship, though one critic charged that it had his “tiny, petty fingerprints all over it.” The Washington Post reports that officials confirmed the USS John S. McCain story, but said that it was a precautionary measure intended to prevent upsetting Trump, but was not actually ordered by him.
I was not informed about anything having to do with the Navy Ship USS John S. McCain during my recent visit to Japan. Nevertheless, @FLOTUS and I loved being with our great Military Men and Women - what a spectacular job they do!

McCain’s daughter, The View co-host Meghan McCain, came to her father’s defense and accused Trump of acting like a “child” because he’s “deeply threatened by the greatness of my dad’s incredible life.”
She also noted the criticism she receives about referencing her father and the backlash she got recently after she scolded Sen. Amy Klobuchar for giving a speech about the late McCain’s disdain for Trump.
Trump is a child who will always be deeply threatened by the greatness of my dads incredible life. There is a lot of criticism of how much I speak about my dad, but nine months since he passed, Trump won't let him RIP. So I have to stand up for him.
It makes my grief unbearable. https://t.co/gUbFAla1VE— Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) May 30, 2019
Many sympathized with McCain, though some said that Trump’s attacks should encourage her to let his political opponents, such as Klobuchar, speak about her dad.
Ma'am, you can never say too much about your father. Don't let anybody ever say otherwise to you.
He was a hero. We all know it. Clearly, so does Trump, the traitor.— Louise Mensch (@LouiseMensch) May 30, 2019
@MeghanMcCain If you're going to share understandable grief about Donald Trump's disgusting jealous obsession with your authentic American hero father you've also got to let dad's friends remind people Sen John McCain was not only tough as hell but also badass funny @amyklobuchar

Things like this are even more reason why you shouldn’t speak out against Klobuchar’s comments that make your fathers legacy even more valuable

He is the most selfish, narcissistic person on earth. Meghan, you can talk about your Dad 24/7 if you choose to. He was your dad and a great patriot. I thank your family for Mr. McCain’s Service to our beloved country. God Bless you???

Others questioned McCain’s continued support of the Republican Party, though she is a vocal critic of Trump.
Your criticism of trump and defense of the Republican party is astonishing. They are one and the same. Open your eyes.

And he is consistently enabled by the party that you continually defend. By extension they are worse than Trump.
