Meghan McCain says pressure to bounce back after baby makes 'women feel bad about themselves'
Meghan McCain is the latest new mom speaking out on the pressure to "bounce back" after giving birth.
The View co-host, who gave birth to daughter Liberty Sage McCain Domenech on Sept. 28, took to Twitter on Sunday to call out unrealistic expectations put on new mothers, arguing that they "make women feel bad about themselves."
"I absolutely loathe the phrase 'post baby body!'" the 36-year-old wrote. "It's designed to make women feel bad about themselves if their body doesn't fit a Western standard of beauty after giving birth. My body is a vessel I am thankful for getting me through life and giving it.
"That's my Sunday rant," she signed off.
I absolutely loathe the phrase “post baby body”!
It’s designed to make women feel bad about themselves if their body doesn’t fit a western standard of beauty after giving birth. My body is a vessel I am thankful for getting me through life and giving it.

The TV personality's tweet got support from some fellow mothers sharing their own experiences of feeling pressured to lose weight after childbirth.
It's a topic that country singer Maren Morris also recently addressed. In early April, the mother to 1-year-old son Hayes posed in her bra and underwear and told fans, "Am never saying 'trying to get my body back' again. No one took it, I didn't lose it like a set of keys. The pressure we put on mothers to 'snap back' is insurmountable and deeply troublesome. You are and always were a f***ing badass. And yeah, I’m proud."
McCain, meanwhile, has been protective of her body and new role as a mom for quite some time. Explaining to fans last summer that "there are a lot of cruel things written about me in the press on an almost constant/daily basis," she opted against sharing many details about her pregnancy.
"Normally I just let it go because it comes with the territory of being an outspoken conservative woman on TV — but I've felt intensely protective and private over this time in my life and the privacy of my child," she said at the time.
Indeed, it wasn't until late December — nearly three months after giving birth — that she posted the first photo of her pregnant figure.
