Meghan Trainor says she doesn’t love her stretch marks after giving birth to son Riley
Meghan Trainor doesn’t love every part of her post-baby body — and she’s OK with that.
The “All About That Bass” singer, who welcomed her first child, a son named Riley, with her husband Daryl Sabara in February of 2021, spoke to Parents about becoming a mom and the new music she is currently working on. She shared that for all the positivity in her life, some of her new songs are reflecting on tough emotions — like not feeling so confident in her own skin since giving birth.
“A lot of women are out there posting their stretch marks, and they write, 'I love my tiger stripes, they gave me my boy,'” she explained. "I love my baby, but I can't look at my stretch marks and honestly say, 'Wow, I love them,' you know?"
She shared that by exploring the challenging side of motherhood in her lyrics, she’s sharing her “truth” with her fans.
“I heard that when you have a baby, you get more creative, and my lyrics are changing,” she said. “Instead of writing songs to make everyone feel better, I'm writing about how I feel in this moment. But it's not like every day is sad. It's more like: Yes, I am a badass, but this ain't easy, and I have to get up and keep going.”
Trainor previously spoke to People about her body after giving birth, explaining to the outlet, “I’m covered in scars and stretch marks in new places I didn’t know stretch marks could be. There are things that aren’t going to go away ever, and I have to learn to love that."
The 28-year-old also said that she went to therapy after her changing body left her feeling “unsexy.”
“Even with my husband, the love of my life, who worships the ground I step on, who loves my body — I was like, 'I'm not feeling it, man,'" Trainor explained.
In June of 2021, the former judge of The Voice UK spoke to Yahoo Life about the joys of being a mom to Riley.
“The sweetest moment is something I didn't know existed,” she gushed. “It's when he smiles at you, even if I'm nasty-looking or I'm just being a weirdo — the way he smiles at me is like, Wow, he recognizes me and he loves the crap out of me, you know? It's like, Oh my God, I made something that loves me that much? Hell yeah — that's my dream [laughs]. Anything I'm feeling, if I'm having a tough day, the greatest, greatest happiness comes from his little smile.”
