Melania Trump Gives First Speech of the Year
Speaking to the spouses of this country's governors, First Lady Melania Trump addressed the activism in the wake of the Parkland shooting, CNN reports.
“Before I begin I want to be sure we take a moment to reflect on the horrific shooting in Florida," she said. "Our continued thoughts and prayers go out to all who were affected by such a senseless act. As a parent I cannot imagine the kind of grief and tragedy like that brings.”
She continued: "And I hope and I know we all find ourselves wondering what we can do to help ... I have been heartened to see children across this country using their voices to speak out and try to create change. They are our future and they deserve a voice.”
Just last week, a 14-year-old survivor of the massacre tweeted at the First Lady, asking her to "have a convo with your step-son @DonaldJTrumpJr before he liked a post about a false conspiracy theory which in turn put a target on my back?"
Hey @FLOTUS you say that your mission as First Lady is to stop cyber bullying, well then, don’t you think it would have been smart to have a convo with your step-son @DonaldJTrumpJr before he liked a post about a false conspiracy theory which in turn put a target on my back

According to a White House pool email, Trump spoke for just over four minutes. These remarks, which are some of her first official ones of the year, were delivered to about 35 people.
They are also the first she's given since the New Yorker published an account of Playboy model Karen McDougal's alleged affair with her husband.
