Melania Trump is jacket draping again
‘Tis the season for draped jackets. And no one was more prepared for that than Melania Trump. Only a few days into fall, the first lady whipped out her jacket and didn’t put it on, as one does when it’s not quite cold enough. Instead, she draped it over her shoulders.
In New York City on Wednesday for a Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation event, FLOTUS attended in a bright blue dress, a similar shade to the custom Ralph Lauren look she wore to the inauguration.

This isn’t the first time FLOTUS has worn the robin’s egg blue sheath. In June, she paired the $1,695 Michael Kors Collection piece with Christian Louboutin floral heels to meet with with Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela and his wife, first lady Lorena Castillo de Varela.
However, for the dress’s September reoccurrence, Trump made the button-detailed wool-blend crepe midi dress even more high fashion with an extra layer.
Trump made the high fashion style her signature look on the campaign trail. She took the look to Iowa for her now president husband’s final campaign rally in February 2016, wearing a monochrome red ensemble consisting of a red pencil dress; pumps; and a red coat, which she draped over her shoulders. She also took in the third GOP debate in Colorado last October, wearing a tailored powder pink coat the same way.

And she didn’t stop once Donald was elected. In fact, she just got more extravagant with the jackets that were allowed to touch her shoulders—not her arms though, that’s only for the very very best coats. In May, she attended the G-7 Summit in Italy dressed for the destination–her $51,500 Dolce & Gabbana jacket was covered in multicolored 3D floral appliques and, you guessed it, draped over her shoulders.

In July at the G-20 summit, the first lady attended the high-profile gathering of world leaders with a red Bottega Veneta cashmere coat draped cape style over a Jill Sander silk dress.
She even wore it on Election Day, when she went to vote in a white Michael Kors dress and a tan Balmain jacket resting on her shoulders.
Each first lady has a favorite look — Michelle Obama’s was the cold-shoulder — and it seems Melania’s been revealed.
