Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, and Jessica Chastain Are the Best Powerhouse Trio at NY Gala

We all need friends like Viola Davis's friends.

Last night, the actress was honored at the 48th Chaplin Award Gala for her decades-long career in Hollywood, and there to support her were pals Meryl Streep and Jessica Chastain.

The celebration for Davis included celebrity speakers and highlights from her films over the years. At the end of the evening, she was presented with the Chaplin Award, which goes to an actor or filmmaker who has made outstanding contributions to cinema and "whose work embodies Charles Spencer Chaplin’s qualities of realism, diversity, and courage," per the award's website.

"Viola Davis brings her tremendous skill and fierce emotional intelligence to everything she does," Lesli Klainberg, president of film at Lincoln Center, said of the honoree in a statement. "The range of her accomplishments is remarkable—as an actor in film, television, and theater; as a producer opening doors for new voices; and as an inspirational memoirist. She is truly a force. We are honored to dedicate an evening to celebrating her achievements and talents at the 48th Chaplin Award Gala."

For the monumental occasion, Davis wore a stunning black strapless peplum midi dress with gold fringe from Jason Wu's resort 2023 collection.

She kept her accessories to a minimum, wearing only a couple silver rings, and opted for classic glam: a sleek bob and red lipstick.

Davis was accompanied to the event, held at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, by her husband, Julius Tennon. She was also joined on the carpet by Streep and Chastain, who both put their own spins on sophisticated eveningwear.

Streep was elegant in a tailored black pantsuit, black-frame glasses, and gold earrings. Chastain wore a fabulous sheer purple couture gown with an abstract colorful print and scattered crystals and beads by Zuhair Murad.

The three women embraced, held hands, and shared laughs on the carpet ahead of the award ceremony.

Davis reached EGOT status this year after winning a Grammy for the audiobook performance of her memoir Finding Me. She is the third Black woman—after Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson—to achieve the honor.
