Michelle Obama shows off her natural curls, bare-faced glow in birthday selfie
On Wednesday, Michelle Obama will join husband Barack to celebrate their friend Joe Biden’s inauguration as President of the United States. In the meantime, the former first lady is taking some time to celebrate a special day of her own.
Sunday, Jan. 17 marked Obama’s 57th birthday, an occasion marked by her former POTUS spouse in a tribute hailing her as “my love, my partner and my best friend.” It was one of many birthday greetings the Becoming author received, prompting her to post a message of thanks on Instagram.
“I know this past year has been difficult for us all on so many levels, so I just hope you all are taking care of yourselves and finding joy in the smallest moments,” added Obama, who last summer opened up about her own mental health amid the pandemic and heated political climate in a candid conversation on her eponymous podcast.
The selfie she shared was just as unfiltered: a simple but striking black-and-white shot showing off her natural curls and bare-faced glow. Wearing a sleeveless top, the former FLOTUS also gave a glimpse of one of her famously toned arms.
The all-natural look — one Obama has embraced more and more since leaving the White House — was applauded by her fans.
“Happy birthday to a woman who is beautiful; inside and out,” read one comment. “Thanks for being bold and showing us your natural self.”
“Come on curls!!” gushed another commenter.
“Come on through with the natural glow!” one person wrote.
“It’s the authenticity for me!” added another fan. “I ‘stan’ for this absolutely stunning photo!”
