Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Had To Move Their Wedding Because Of California Wildfires
After nearly 10 years of their on-and-off relationship, singer Miley Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsworth tied the knot just before Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 23. The pair confirmed their marriage in a series of black-and-white Instagram posts, with loving captions like "This is probably our one-millionth kiss," and a simple "12.23.18."
The wedding took place at Cyrus's Tennessee home, where they've been living since the California wildfires last month. But as it turns out, they had originally planned to wed at the Malibu home they shared together, which was tragically destroyed by the fire.
"They had planned to get married in Malibu over the holidays when all of their families were together," a source close to the singer told People. "After their Malibu house didn’t make the fire, they have been living at Miley’s Tennessee house."
On Nov. 13, Hemsworth shared a photo of the wreckage on his Instagram, where you could see what look like stone tiles in the shape of the word "LOVE" amongst the destruction. In the caption, Hemsworth wrote, "It’s been a heartbreaking few days. This is what’s left of my house. Love. Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes also and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected by these fires."
Despite the devastating loss of their home and the change to their nuptials, Cyrus and Hemsworth still got to have the beautiful, intimate wedding they were hoping for. According to a source in People, "Miley seems ecstatic."
"They always wanted a small, private celebration with family and close friends and that’s what they got," the source said, adding, "She loves her Tennessee home and was very happy about having the ceremony there."
It's also clear the couple had a lot of fun at their wedding, as Cyrus posted an adorable video that Liam took of her dancing to "Uptown Funk" at the wedding on Twitter.
