The Most Underrated Menu Item at the Costco Food Court

One of the best things about a Costco membership is having access to the food court. Frequent shoppers at the big box store have their favorites, including the pizza, hot dog, churro and chicken bake. (There are also some misses, like the recently added mango smoothie.)

When it comes to sweets, Costco shoppers often head straight to the bakery for things like chocolate peanut butter pie, s'mores cookies, or lemon meringue cheesecake, but a recent discussion in the Costco Subreddit highlights a top dessert that's hiding in plain sight in the food court: the Costco Strawberry Sundae.

The original poster (OP) shared a photo and this caption: "The Costco sundae is so underrated." Commenters hopped in to support this statement, and to add some of their favorite Costco sundae thoughts, feelings and hacks. Here's what they had to say.

The sundae is simple, it's just vanilla soft serve with strawberry sauce, but Redditors contend that it's a superior sweet. “[It’s the] best thing at the food court,” said one. And they like it so much that they've figured out a way to stock the treat at their house. “I have 4 sitting in my freezer right now. Usually transfer over to the fridge area for about 15 minutes before eating.

Another commenter had a hot take that pitted this sundae against another popular contender. "Costco sundae > McDonald’s sundae. Price and quality," they said.

Per usual, some folks had thoughts on how to upgrade the sundae. "The richest soft serve ice cream I’ve found! Even better when you dip a churro for a frosty bite!" said one. Others suggested adding crushed candy bars for a Blizzard-like treat or doing strawberry sauce AND hot fudge for a chocolate-dipped strawberry vibe.

Many folks supported the sundae as the sweet finish for a great Costco meal. "And a goes great after a hot dog or slice of pizza!" said one. "I love being able to treat me and my two kids to really good pizza and ice cream for less than fifteen bucks total. Would be double that anywhere else," said another.

The only negative comments in the thread were from folks who think the portion size is too large.

“I always wish they'd sell a half sized one. The ice cream is way too rich for me to eat the entire thing,” one Redditor said. Another agreed saying, “It's delicious. But I usually end up throwing half of it away because it's way too much.” These people should take the other fan's advice about stashing the sundae in the fridge.
