Geeked Week 2023 Highlights

Ultraman: Rising

The iconic Japanese hero makes his way to Netflix in an all-new animated film. Like the original 1966 television series and its subsequent follow-ups, Ultraman: Rising centres on an average guy who can transform into a gigantic, Kaiju-battling superhero.

Orion and the Dark

The new Dreamworks animated film follows the exploits of an anxious young man who gets pulled into a spirited adventure to cure his adolescent fears - fears like the Dark who, it turns out, is quite nice. It’s based on the book by Emma Yarlett and written by Charlie Kaufman (I’m Thinking of Ending Things).

Avatar: The Last Airbender

This adaptation aims to do right by the beloved Nickelodeon animated series - and from the trailer it certainly looks like its heart is in the right place. It sees young hero Aang attempt to master the four elements of water, earth, fire, and air in order to save the world from the Fire Nation.

Stranger Things season 5

Netflix is slowly drip-feeding us news of Stranger Things’ final season. We learned in Geeked Week 2023, for instance, that the first words in a recently shared script snippet are: “The sound of cold wind, groaning trees, and a child’s voice singing a familiar song.” That’s all you’re getting for a while: the show isn’t set to premier until summer 2025.

The Umbrella Academy

Coming next year, it’s the fourth and final season of Netflix’s offbeat family drama based on the original comic series by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way. Geeked Week 2023 has released a featurette to take us behind-the-scenes. According to David Casta?eda, who plays Diego Hargreeves, it’s his “favorite season.”

With news on One Piece, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and Rebel Moon coming later in Geeked Week 2023, we’ll be updating you on all the latest right here.
