Netflix Is Releasing a New Kids' Cartoon Christmas Movie Next Month
It's finally time to start planning our Halloween costumes, which means snowflakes, presents, and movie nights by the fire aren't far behind. Hallmark, Lifetime, and even Freeform have started releasing details about their Christmas movie schedules, so it makes sense that Netflix decided to release some details about their lineup, as well.
The streaming network has started to share info about their original 2019 Christmas movies. We can never forget the joy of The Holiday Calendar or The Christmas Chronicles, of course. But their latest made-for-binging TV films and series already seem like they’ll earn instant classic status in our hearts. Here’s everything we know about what Netflix has in store for the holidays:
Jingle Jangle
Ding, ding! Is that the sound of sleigh bells we hear, or is it Netflix’s upcoming live action musical, Jingle Jangle? Yep, you read that right: This year we can expect a jaunty melodic movie about a toymaker and a magical invention that could change his and his granddaughter’s life forever.
Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville and Forest Whitaker are reportedly heading up the film, and Keegan-Michael Key, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, and Madalen Mills will also join the cast. And it gets better: The Voice coach John Legend’s company, Get Lifted Film Co., is producing the feature!
The Knight Before Christmas
Though it’s not the Princess Switch sequel we all hoped for, Vanessa Hudgens is returning for a new Netflix Christmas movie, The Knight Before Christmas. Sadly, Vanessa won’t be putting on a posh British accent (RIP), but there’s still a hint of royalty and even an Englishman involved.
According to Deadline, the 2019 film will follow an English knight who accidentally gets sent from the medieval era to present day by a sorceress. He then finds himself falling for a high school science teacher who’s “disillusioned by love.” It’s unclear if Vanessa is playing the sorceress, the teacher, or both, but we can’t wait to see this time-changing story take place.
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby
That’s right, the Netflix franchise we all know and love is back for a third installment. This time, now-Queen Amber Moore (Rose McIver) and King Richard (Ben Lamb) are expecting a child. But it’s not all baby showers and cheesy romance scenes: An “ancient curse” is also rearing its ugly head and threatening their family.
Klaus
Directed by Despicable Me’s co-creator, Klaus is sure to delight audiences of all ages when it debuts on November 15. It follows Jesper, the “postal academy’s worst student” who gets stationed above the Arctic Circle. There, he develops friendships with a teacher named Alva (Rashida Jones) and a carpenter named Klaus (J.K. Simmons).
Home for Christmas
In this Scandinavian series, Johanne is 30 years old, perpetually single, and fed up with hearing about it. So, she sets out on a 24-day hunt to find someone to bring home for Christmas.
Holiday Rush
A single dad has to figure out how to keep his “entitled” family afloat after losing his cushy radio DJ job. La La Anthony, A Million Little Things’ Romany Malco, and Sonequa Martin-Green are rumored to headline this heartwarming film.
Merry Happy Whatever
Dennis Quaid and Ashley Tisdale star in the upcoming series about a dad who has to deal with his daughter’s new boyfriend, who she just brought home for the holidays.
That’s all the holly jolly goodness we know for now. But if it’s anything like last year’s roundup, we know Netflix will have plenty more Christmas movies not to miss in 2019
