Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Anime Gets An Energetic New Trailer

Netflix’s upcoming Scott Pilgrim anime – Scott Pilgrim Takes Off – is so close you could touch it, and in the leadup to its launch, the streaming giant is keen to show it off even more. A new trailer was among the announcements in last month’s Drop 01 animation presentation, but Netflix has now released another — and it might be the best one yet.

The new trailer opens with a dream, showing Ramona Flowers skating through a cloudscape, before Scott Pilgrim himself abruptly wakes up. It gives us a little bit of the setup for the series — in Toronto, Canada Scott is pretty keen on Ramona, but in order to date her, he must defeat seven of her evil exes.

What follows is a very high energy trailer, showing Scott facing down with all of these exes. It’s got some incredible electronic music, some incredibly slick animation, and an announcer voiceover that’s very on-the-nose but also very fitting. Honestly, even as someone who isn’t that fond of Scott Pilgrim, the trailer very much had me on board.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off had its release date announced a few months ago, alongside a teaser trailer that didn’t show off all that much. It was interesting though in that it revealed that pretty much every voice actor from the incredibly popular Scott Pilgrim movie would be reprising their roles in the anime.

The trailer comes after it was reported that Netflix is restructuring its animation unit, with layoffs likely in the move. Two films were reportedly canceled as part of the process, and the streaming giant could focus more on external productions in the future.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will be released exclusively on Netflix on November 17, 2023.
