Old Canal Smoke House voted as best BBQ restaurant by readers
CHILLICOTHE— Readers have once again spoken, this time on their favorite place in Chillicothe to get good BBQ. With over 60% percent of the votes the winner is Old Canal Smoke House.
The restaurant was established in 2004 but bought by Ryan Muncy and his family in 2013. While he grew up in the restaurant business Muncy never thought he would one day own his own shop. However, in his almost 11 years with the Smoke House he has found that he has fallen in love with the business.
With one smoker Old Canal Smoke House stays busy cooking a variety of meats including pork, turkey, salmon, chicken, and more. While the smoked options are popular Muncy said the goal is to offer nonsmoked food that is just as good as the smoked options like pasta and shrimp.
"We didn't want to just be seen as a barbeque restaurant," said Muncy.
Customer favorites include the hand-pulled pork, smoked brisket, smoked prime rib which sells out almost every week and the smokehouse pasta with the specialty creamy sauce. For Muncy, his favorite meal offered is the ribs which he calls "phenomenal."
The atmosphere of the restaurant has also been carefully curated with the goal of being welcoming to large family groups while also providing space for couples out on a date or someone just coming in for a drink. Everything from the tables and chairs to the moody waiting lounge enhances the overall experience of visiting the restaurant.
"We want anyone to be able to come here for any reason," said Muncy.
Part of the feel also comes from the customers which Muncy and family said really make the restaurant what it is. From regulars who come in several times a week to new visitors, they appreciate everyone who comes through their doors looking to find something delicious.
