‘Once in a lifetime experience’: Last day of EAA Airventure brings mixed bag of emotions

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – The last day of EAA Airventure is one of the best, and one of the saddest, knowing that another week of the greatest aircraft displays is another year away. Still, the spectators are busy soaking up every ounce of enjoyment while they can before it is over.

“This is our first year,” Chris Klein of Chicago said. “We’ve wanted to come here for a while. It’s super cool, I’ve seen a lot of stuff I’ve never seen before. Me and my brother, we film everything, like planes, trains, and cars so this was a real treat.”

“Definitely. I would never miss this,” his brother Nick Klein agreed. “It was amazing, with the thunderbirds making a surprise arrival and the B-1 Lancer flyby, it was perfection. Nothing better.”

Even the young brothers, they know a good airshow when they see one, and globetrotting lifelong enthusiasts would agree with them.

“It’s a fantastic airshow, the best in the world. It was so fantastic that I came back again and again,” Paris-native Christophe Vellier said of his first time at EAA in 1994, and now his 13th this year. “The people were very friendly. For aircraft enthusiasts, it’s the best place in the world for me.”

The brothers may be young enthusiasts, but they already have their favorite planes to keep an eye out for when to hit the record button on their cell phone camera, always poised for the next shot on the tripod.

“This is amazing, it’s the best airshow I’ve been to,” Chris said. “I’ve seen like the F-35s, the F-22s, that was really cool. I liked seeing the Canadian Air Force come out for their 100th anniversary, that was really cool too. My favorite one was yesterday when they pulled out the F-16 with the red, white, and blue paint scheme.”

The brothers may have had their first trip to EAA this year, but they’re already looking forward to the next.

“We’ll definitely come back next year/ This is so cool, I couldn’t wait to come here, I couldn’t sleep the night before,” Chris said. “I wish it would be around for longer, it’s been fun just constantly filming all day, just camping out here.”

“It feels like a once-in-a-lifetime experience but you can come back in a year,” Nick said.
