The screenplay edged out Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Martin McDonagh), Lady Bird (Greta Gerwig), The Big Sick (Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon) and The Shape of Water (Guillermo del Toro and Vanessa Taylor).
